Arusha trail behind Dar in National
Golf tourney

Arusha Gymkhana Club  emerged  second  in the just ended  National Golf Championship held in  Dar es Salaam. The championship saw Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club eclipsed the rest in the country after grossing 458 cumulative strokes in the 36 holes event.

Arusha’s team had Tanzania Open reigning champion John Saidi whose  show  did not measure up to previous  performances. He registered 81, 83 scores during the tourney.

The best contribution came from Nuru Mollel with 78 on the opening day and 77 yesterday while team mates Elisante Lembris and Jimmy Mollel posted 77,80 and 77, 82 shots respectively.

Mollel and Lembris lost their grips on the closing round to fail the chase of the inaugural team championship title.

According to the Guardian the host club teed off promisingly as they opened a narrow two stroke lead over Arusha with contributions from Michael Makala who grossed five over par 76 as Pembe Kondo and Adam Mwanyenza returned six over par 77 totals. Idd Mzaki staggered to ten over par 81 to miss the score sheet.

Mzaki became the DGC’s star on the final day when he fired all barrels ablaze for his superb two over par 73 to make a resounding contribution into the team’s totals yesterday..

Another DGC player Makala steadied the ship with four over par 75 to take advantage of the field that played poorly in this final round.

Kondo’s 81 pushed him outside the contribution as team mate Mwanyenza had his 80 into the team’s count towards the finishing line.

Frank Roman, Abas Adam and Patrick Masumbiko saved the day for Moshi Club with third place finish on 476 totals to stay just five shots adrift of Arusha.

Moshi had trailed Arusha by hefty eight shots during the opening round as their skipper Roman failed to click with uncharacteristic 79.

Roman, who came with the tournament’s second best score reminiscent of DGC’s Makala on 75 apiece, was too late to bring and ripples to overcharging Mzaki.

TPC was the bottom placed club in the event with poor scores of 525 with 260 realised on the opening day.

DGC’s Makala was the overall best individual performer with nine over par 151 edging out team mate Mzaki by two shots.

Moshi Club’s Roman was third overall for staying behind Mzaki by a single shot margin as Nuru Mollel was fourth placed.

Morogoro’s Godfrey Leverian was tenth overall for his 159.
