Plans for Monduli University underway By Thomas Ratsim Now referred to as the North Central Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) has plans to establish a University College in Monduli, Arusha Region. The Right Reverend Thomas Laiser, Bishop of the Diocese, hitherto known as Diocese in Arusha Region revealed this on February 28 this year \at a special Sunday Service to launch a new name of the diocese and raising funds for development of the diocese which was presided by former Prime Minister, Edward Lowassa and MP for Monduli. Narrating the achievements and future plans of the diocese, Bishop Laiser mentioned that the major landmarks of the diocese are the Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre, Piece House Secondary School, Arusha Corridor Springs Hotel, ten Secondary Schools and two designated District Hospitals at Selian and Orkesumet. He said members of the congregations are now building houses of worship, buying vehicles for pastors and motorcycles for the evangelists. The diocese has already acquired 700-acre land in Monduli for the purpose of establishing a new University College. Commenting on changing the name from Diocese in Arusha Region to North Central Diocese (NCD), the Bishop said that was culminated by recent administrative changes of splitting Arusha Region in order to form the Manyara Region. The Bishop said due to the changes the diocese has also amended the constitution. During the service led by Emeritus Bishop Sendoro of ELCT Eastern and Coastal Diocese, Bishop Laiser dedicated the constitution.
